I woke from a coma to find my nine-year-old grandson curled up beside my hospital bed. The moment he saw my eyes open, he threw his arms around me and whispered through his tears, “Granny… if Aunt Lisa comes, please pretend you’re still asleep. Then you’ll understand why I haven’t left you.”

She reached toward the IV beside my bed.

That was when I opened my eyes.

“Don’t.”

Lisa froze.

Walter jumped from the chair and ran into my arms, sobbing.

For the first time, I saw fear in my daughter’s eyes.

“I heard everything,” I said.

Lisa stepped backward. “Mom, I can explain—”

“No,” I interrupted. “You already explained enough.”

I pressed the nurse’s call button.

Within seconds, footsteps rushed toward the room.

Lisa tried to leave, but the urmnurse stopped her at the door.

Walter clung to me.

“I told you, Granny,” he cried. “I knew she was hiding something.”

I kissed his forehead, fighting back tears.

“You saved me, sweetheart.”

Later, the police arrived after the hospital reviewed the security footage and the nurse’s statement. What Lisa had planned was no longer a secret.

But the greatest shock came days later.

The doctor told me the accident hadn’t been random.

Someone had tampered with my car.

When I looked at Walter, I finally understood.

He hadn’t just been waiting for me to wake up.

He had been protecting me.

And somehow, that little boy had known the truth long before I did.
