After six years of loneliness, I had finally found the courage to trust another man, and now I felt as though I had been made a fool of all over again.
I was about to walk away when the woman suddenly said:
“You have no idea how much pain you could cause that poor woman.”
I couldn’t take it anymore.
“That poor woman is standing right here.”
They both turned around.
David’s face immediately went pale.
Standing beside him was a woman of about fifty, with short brown hair.
“Mary…” David barely managed to whisper.
“Who is this woman? Is she your wife?”
“No! Good Lord, no!”
“Then why is she saying you’re deceiving me?”
The woman stepped toward me.
“My name is Sarah. I’m David’s daughter.”
I stared at her in disbelief.
“Your daughter?”
“Yes. And I was just trying to convince my father to finally be honest with you.”
