“Then why weren’t you saying anything at first?”
He looked at the ring.

“Because the second I saw it, I recognized it. I had seen it in Dad’s workshop when I was young. I just couldn’t believe it had been kept all these years.”
A few minutes later, we all sat back down.
Only moments earlier, everyone at that table had thought something deeply wrong and completely unacceptable was happening.
But in reality, an uncle had simply spent eighteen years keeping a promise he had made to his late father.
Emma hardly ever takes the ring off now.
