She looked at him in surprise.
Marriage
“Then why did you agree to this marriage in the first place?”
Victor didn’t answer.
He got up from his wheelchair.
Sofia froze.
The man who supposedly could barely walk suddenly took several perfectly steady steps.
“You… can walk?”
Weddings
Victor looked at her and locked the door.
“Sofia, you’re about to see something that almost no one knows about.”
He raised his hands and grabbed the skin around his neck.
At first, the girl didn’t understand what was happening. But a second later, the edge of the “skin” began to separate.
Sofia screamed and backed toward the bed.
Victor slowly removed a thick silicone covering that had completely concealed his body from his neck to his thighs. His enormous stomach, folds of skin, and even some of the scars had been artificial disguises, so realistic that practically anyone could have been fooled.
Magazines
A completely different man stood before Sofia.
Young, tall, and athletic.
“Who are you?..” she barely managed to say.
“Victor Alvarez,” the man replied. “But now you need to learn my darkest secret.”
Three years earlier, Victor had nearly died in an assassination attempt. That was when he realized that someone among his closest relatives wanted to take control of his fortune.
Marriage
So Victor staged the appearance of severe illness and began appearing in public wearing a special suit. He wanted to look like a weak man who was close to death so he could find out who would be the first to try to take advantage of his situation.
But there was another reason.
He had stopped trusting people.
Every woman he was introduced to was primarily interested in his money. Some even laughed at his appearance, thinking he couldn’t hear them.
When Sofia’s father offered his own daughter in exchange for the debt, Victor initially wanted to call the police.
