Then I saw the cable.
It ran from her car directly to the outdoor outlet on the side of my house.
I stared at it for several seconds, almost impressed by the audacity.
Then I put on my robe and slippers and went outside.
Monica was leaning against the car, scrolling through her phone.
Autos & Vehicles
“Monica.”
She looked up.
“What exactly are you doing?”
“Charging my car.”
She said it like I’d asked why the moon was in the sky.
“You’re charging it using my electricity.”
She rolled her eyes.
Home & Garden
“Eleanor, come on.”
“My electric bill nearly doubled.”
“You live alone. How much electricity do you even use?”
I couldn’t believe what I was hearing.
“That isn’t the point.”
“It kind of is. I’ve got three kids. I’m driving everywhere all day. You’re retired.”
“So?”
She shrugged.
