At 69, I Went on Vacation Alone and Fell in Love With a 72-Year-Old Man. For Seven Days, I Felt Like the Happiest Woman in the World. But on Our Final Evening, I Overheard a Woman Saying, “You Can’t Keep Deceiving Her. She’s Going Home Tomorrow, and You Still Don’t Know How You’re Going to Get Rid of Her.”

On the final evening of my vacation, David invited me to a beautiful seaside restaurant.

“Mary, there’s something important I want to tell you tonight.”

I thought perhaps he was going to suggest that we continue our relationship after the vacation.

But during dinner, his phone rang.

David’s expression changed instantly.

“I’m sorry. I need to step outside for a few minutes.”

He walked away.

Fifteen minutes passed.

I began to worry.

Finally, I decided to look for him.

In the courtyard behind the restaurant, I heard his voice.

David was talking to a woman.

“Have you told her everything yet?” the woman asked.

“No.”

“David, she’s going back to America tomorrow. You can’t keep deceiving her like this.”

I froze.

Then the woman continued.

“What are you going to do when she realizes you never should have gotten close to her in the first place?”
