“Sarah, has your husband ever pressured you into doing something you didn’t want to do?”
“Yes. Every night. For eighteen years.”
Her expression changed.
“What does he make you do?”
When I explained our strange nightly ritual, the doctor turned pale.
She stood up, closed the door, and asked:
“Does your husband know you’re here?”
“No.”
She moved her chair closer.
“Sarah, you’ve spent eighteen years blaming yourself without any medical evidence. And the swelling in your abdomen needs to be investigated. You deserve to know the truth.”
I couldn’t hold back my tears.
That day, she ordered several tests.
An ultrasound revealed a large ovarian cyst that could explain my swollen belly and pain. The doctor explained that further evaluation was necessary and that my appearance alone could never establish the cause of our infertility.
“Sarah, difficulty conceiving can involve the woman’s health, the man’s health, or both.”
