Cross walked directly past Vance and Miller without bestowing a single glance upon either of them. He stopped two feet from Victoria.
“Inspector Reed,” Director Cross said, his voice deep and stern. “Report.”
“I am uninjured, Director,” Victoria replied, her voice steady. “Deputy Vance pulled me from the vehicle without legal cause, shoved me against my door, and placed me in restraints after I requested their identities and the legal justification for the stop. Officer Miller assisted in the detention and attempted to fabricate an equipment violation regarding tire pressure.”
She walked over to the side of her sedan, reached up onto the hot roof, and retrieved her registration and insurance card. She blew a light layer of gray dust off the paper documents and held them out to Cross.
“Deputy Vance also discarded official identity documents onto the exterior of the vehicle after refusing to inspect them,” she added.
