He wanted the house for himself.
My husband looked at him.
“When you said you no longer wanted to take care of us and brought us here, the final condition had been fulfilled.”
Our son gripped the documents tightly.
“But I didn’t abandon you!”
My husband looked at him sternly.
“You packed our things.”
“That doesn’t mean…”
“You brought us here.”
“You agreed to come!”
“And what choice did you leave us?”
Our son fell silent.
My husband’s voice became quieter.
“You stood in the middle of our living room and told your mother that taking care of us was ruining your life.”
Our son lowered his eyes.
I remembered every word.
For several days, I had tried to convince myself that he hadn’t really meant it.
But now, hearing my husband say those words aloud, they hurt all over again.
Our son sat down on a chair.
“There’s something else.”
My husband remained silent.
“Yesterday, the lawyer came to the house.”
My husband nodded.
“I know.”
“He said I have thirty days.”
