I stopped in the hallway.
Then I heard my father’s voice.
“I know. That’s why I still haven’t told your mother.”
My stomach dropped.
I moved closer.
“If she finds out, she’ll worry,” Emily said.
My father answered,
“One day, we’re going to have to tell her.”
That was enough.
I pushed open the door.
They both turned around.
There was a large box on the table.
Emily immediately went silent.
“What is going on here?” I asked. What happened next read in the comments 👇‼️👇‼️
My father looked at Emily.
Emily lowered her head.
“Mom…”
“I want to know right now.”
For a few seconds, no one spoke.
Then my father pulled out a chair.
“Sit down.”
“I don’t want to sit down.”
He could see how frightened I really was.
“All right. Then just listen.”
Emily started crying.
I immediately went over to her.
“What happened?”
She looked at me.
“Kids at school are making fun of me.”
I froze.
“What?”
It turned out that for weeks, several girls at school had been making cruel comments about her appearance.
Emily had started wearing oversized clothes.
She no longer wanted to be photographed.
She had even dropped out of the school performance she had once been excited about.
And she hadn’t told me because she was afraid I would immediately go to the school and make things worse.
The only person she had told was Grandpa.
My father opened the box on the table.
Inside were old photographs.
He picked up the first one.
I recognized the girl immediately.
