When Amina Diallo learned she was pregnant, she thought she was expecting a typical pregnancy.
But even during the first examinations, doctors realized this was a completely unusual case.
At first, they assumed she was expecting triplets. Then they talked about quintuplets.
And then, the incredible became clear:
Amina was carrying eight children.
Four girls and four boys.
The babies were born prematurely, at 30 weeks of pregnancy. They were tiny: the smallest weighed about 500 grams, and the largest about one kilogram.
Immediately after birth, all eight were placed in the neonatal intensive care unit.
Doctors and nurses monitored their condition around the clock.
The babies were fed every two hours, their vital signs were constantly monitored, dozens of diapers were changed daily, and every gram of weight gained was a true victory.
But the situation remained extremely uncertain.
No one could guarantee that all eight babies would survive.
